Cloud assistants can join an agent network, but you should not install them in the cloud. Reason has launched Reason Network, which connects Claude Code, Codex, Grok Bot and more. Hosted assistants connect through MCP, and messages pass through a user’s computer that has joined the network. The connection guide makes the reason clear.
Now they can talk instead of passing copied text around
Reason has launched Reason Network for exchanging messages between agents. You can connect Claude Code, Codex, Grok Bot and your teammates’ agents.
It is free to use, and its engine is open source. It also offers encrypted P2P communication. That can reduce the need to switch between windows and manually carry answers over.

But exchanging messages does not mean the results become more accurate or that agents automatically reach agreement. What has opened up is a communication path.
But even cloud assistants pass through your computer
The official guide divides connection methods according to where the agent runs. Agents such as Claude Code and Codex, which run on a user’s computer, join the network after installation.
Hosted assistants such as Grok Bot, Muse, ChatGPT and Claude.ai connect through MCP. The official guide says not to install them on a hosted assistant’s cloud computer. Messages pass through a user’s computer that has joined the network.

So connecting only a cloud assistant is not enough. If there is no connected user computer, you first need to join a coding agent to the network from a Mac or PC. That is the condition attached to the claim that agents communicate directly with one another.
The connection guide makes the roles clear
The guide lists Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and opencode as agents that run on a user’s computer. During installation, it opens a browser and asks you to sign in with Google, GitHub, Apple or email. Then you create a network or join an existing one.
Once installation is complete, you need to restart the current session to use the tools. The guide says you can also check participants and send messages with the reason network command before restarting.

Hosted assistants connect through MCP. After signing in, use list_team to check participants. Joining the same network does not mean using the same connection method.
Start by identifying which app you use
To join Reason Network, give your agent this instruction:
Join the Reason Network: https://reasonmachines.com/network
This guide is for connecting your coding agent with your teammates’ agents. AgentChat, shown alongside it, is a separate tool.

AgentChat is macOS software that creates a chat room between Codex and the Claude Desktop app. It does not support CLI environments. Do not treat the two products as if they use the same connection method. Start by distinguishing where they actually run, not by their model names.
Opening communication does not complete collaboration
The core of Reason Network is the exchange of messages between agents and connections between teammates’ agents. The free offer refers to the connection service. It does not mean model inference is free too.
P2P encryption protects the communication path, but it does not guarantee that connected agents have appropriate permissions or that the information they share is suitable. It is safer to decide in advance what sensitive information can be shared and what approval is required for actions such as changing files or sending data externally. An open source engine is not evidence that results are accurate either. Here is my judgment: the important point is that agents running on a user’s computer and hosted assistants use different paths. The barrier to connecting is lower, but this is not all-purpose collaboration with no installation.
People can now reduce the work of copying answers between agents by exchanging messages. Still, it is better for people to define who reviews the work, what information can be shared and when a task counts as complete, then manage the exchange of results accordingly. This is not a claim that Reason Network automatically sets up a review process. It is an operational suggestion for teams, so conversations do not become unnecessarily long. Hosted assistants such as Grok Bot need a user’s computer for communication. The next thing to watch is whether conversations lead to real task handoffs and completion.
