Grok 4.6, switched on with one AWS account
xAI's Grok 4.6 became generally available on Amazon Bedrock on August 18, 2026. You can use it as soon as you request model access in any AWS Region where Bedrock is offered. xAI's official account SpaceXAI said on X that "Grok 4.6 is live on Amazon Bedrock," and the official xAI announcement and AWS's official blog confirmed it.
Until now, Grok 4.6 had been offered mainly through xAI's own API and subscription services. Adding Bedrock isn't a new model; it means where you can buy the existing model has changed.
A 500K context window and four reasoning effort levels
According to the Bedrock model card, Grok 4.6 supports a 500K-token context window and lets you adjust reasoning effort across four levels: low, medium, high, and xhigh. xAI says it's specialized for long-running, multi-step work such as coding, agentic tasks, and knowledge work. In benchmark comparisons, it says Grok 4.6 performs at a level similar to frontier models specialized for coding and agents.
A 500K context doesn't mean every request uses the full limit. Setting reasoning effort low cuts response time and cost, while raising it to xhigh spends more time on more complex tasks. Matching the effort level to the nature of the task is what drives your real costs.
What companies under AWS contracts get
What the Bedrock launch changes in practice is the procurement path. A company that already uses AWS contracts, IAM permissions, and billing can start adopting by requesting Grok 4.6 access in the Bedrock console, without signing a new contract with xAI. You just add a model while keeping your internal security approval, data governance policies, and existing AWS Region placement requirements.
However, AWS only said "all Regions where Bedrock is available," so for a per-Region list you need to check the AWS console or Bedrock documentation yourself. Whether a specific Region is supported should be checked on the Bedrock model availability page before adoption.
Existing xAI API users can keep using it as is
xAI's own API and subscription paths continue unchanged by the Bedrock launch. Bedrock is an additional channel, not a replacement, and is an option for companies already tied to AWS infrastructure. Pricing follows Bedrock's standard billing, so which is cheaper compared with your existing direct xAI contract depends on your usage pattern.
