At 2:45 AM (KST) on August 18, 2026, the prediction market platform Kalshi posted a short breaking item: "The value of Amazon's stake in Anthropic is now nearly $200 billion." The post drew more than 48,000 views.
How $13 Billion Grew
Amazon invested about $13 billion in Anthropic in total: $8 billion in 2024, plus another $5 billion in early 2026. According to The Motley Fool, citing Amazon's filings on August 17, the book value of that stake (about 21%) was assessed at about $190 billion as Anthropic's private-market valuation climbed to around $1 trillion. The "$200 billion" Kalshi cited is the value you'd reach if Anthropic actually went public at a $1 trillion valuation.
Net Income Surges, Half of It Thanks to Anthropic
This stake valuation is already showing up in Amazon's results. According to the Motley Fool, Amazon's net income in Q2 2026 jumped 245%, from $18.2 billion a year earlier to $62.6 billion. The gain on the Anthropic stake was cited as the main reason Amazon's "other income" line rose from $1.1 billion to $53.4 billion.
Until an IPO, It's a Number on the Books
This amount is an unrealized gain until Anthropic actually goes public or the stake is sold. Private company valuations can fall again depending on later funding rounds or market conditions. Amazon also supplies the Trainium chips and AWS cloud infrastructure that Anthropic uses, so some point out that it collects investment returns and infrastructure revenue at the same time.
