The news account The Spectator Index (@spectatorindex) reported at 4:52 a.m. KST on August 21, 2026 that "Anthropic is preparing to file for an IPO as soon as the end of this month, according to Bloomberg."
Around the same time, Bloomberg's August 21 report said Anthropic's raise could match or exceed SpaceX's record.
SpaceX's record is the baseline
In its June listing, SpaceX raised its target of $75 billion to about $86.2 billion after exercising the overallotment option (Benzinga). The core of this Bloomberg report is that Anthropic is aiming for a raise that matches or exceeds that record.
The lineup of lead banks is also taking shape. According to Bloomberg's August 20 report, Citigroup is set to join the existing Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan.
The confidential filing was already done in June
Anthropic already completed a confidential filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on June 1. The "late August filing" now being discussed is separate from that confidential filing and reads as the next step that gets the public listing process under way in earnest.
In a recent private funding round, Anthropic raised $65 billion at a valuation of $965 billion. An IPO valuation of around $1 trillion, similar to OpenAI's level, is being discussed.
What to watch in practice
The "$2 trillion valuation" speculation from last week's Nikkei report and this "SpaceX-scale raise" speculation are different metrics. Valuation is the value of the whole company, while the raise is the money actually collected in this listing. Don't confuse the two numbers.
The filing date and the actual listing date are also different. Even if the filing is at the end of August, the actual exchange debut could come later. The exact schedule remains fluid until Anthropic or the SEC makes an official announcement.
What still needs confirming
This report is a Bloomberg article citing sources, and there's no official confirmation from Anthropic yet. Both the raise size and the valuation figures could change as the listing process moves forward.
