On August 17 at 10:55 AM (KST), Gabriel Chua, a DX (Developer Experience) engineer on the OpenAI Codex team, shared three new Codex app features on his X account.
They let you move chats in and out of projects, pull in other chats with `@`, and have one chat send a message to another. He posted a demo video with the joke "including telling the other chat that pineapple doesn't belong on pizza", and in under 24 hours the post drew more than 130,000 views.
Move Chats Like Folders Without Deleting Them
Previously, to attach an in-progress chat to a specific project, you had to open the web page separately and click "Add to project." In fact, one user in the replies said, "I kept trying to move it but couldn't, so I ended up logging into the web page to add it."
With this update, you can drag a chat or use a menu to move it in and out of projects right inside the Codex app. The conversation history isn't deleted and stays intact; only the project's context is newly applied.
It doesn't work the same on every platform, though. One reply complained, "The Windows app still can't use the projects feature at all," so support across desktop environments needs separate verification.
One @ Pulls In Another Chat
The second feature lets you type `@` in the chat input or drag another chat into the text box to bring that chat's contents into the current conversation as a reference.
It cuts down on re-explaining the same context as you move between several chats. One developer added in a reply that "you can use one chat's session ID in another chat to bring in the context, memory, and references."
Chats Talk to Chats
The third is the feature that drew the biggest reaction. You can instruct one chat to send a message directly to another. The most-liked reply called it "Chats messaging each other is the real headline feature. The rest is just folder organization."
It means you could run several chats in parallel, give each a different task, and have them pass results to each other when needed. The original post alone doesn't confirm exactly what conditions and scope this feature works under, though.
Not an Official OpenAI Announcement Yet
As of August 18, 2026 (KST), I checked OpenAI's official ChatGPT and Codex changelog and the Codex app introduction page. Moving chats into projects has a history of discussion as a feature request issue in OpenAI's official GitHub repository, which supports that it exists.
The `@` reference and chat-to-chat messaging, on the other hand, aren't separately documented in the official changelog or help pages as of this point. Gabriel Chua's X profile includes the line "Opinions my own," so keep in mind that this post is a share from the responsible engineer's personal account, not an official company announcement.
So the features appear to work well enough that several users mention their experience in the comments, but an official launch notice, the scope of availability, and per-platform support need to be confirmed separately through OpenAI's official channels. If your team uses the Codex app by project, the most accurate approach for now is to try it yourself on each desktop OS and see whether it works.
