A new model is out.
But this time the picker comes into view before the model page.
On August 14, 2026, xAI announced that Grok 4.6 has come to GitHub Copilot.
It's a case where where you can choose it matters more than the model's performance.
It Connects to VS Code, the CLI, and the Cloud Agent
Copilot doesn't mean just one product.
xAI named the VS Code IDE, Copilot CLI, and the cloud agent as ways to use it.
Users just pick Grok 4.6 in the model picker.
Business and Enterprise accounts may need to turn the model on in settings first.
You need to check this condition separately for personal and team accounts.
API Pricing Was Also Published Separately
xAI's official announcement also listed SpaceXAI console pricing.
Input is $2 per million tokens.
Output is $6 per million tokens.
This is not the Copilot subscription price.
Don't compare API usage costs and Copilot access conditions in the same table.
Three Things to Check in the Copilot Picker First
First, work out which Copilot product you're using.
Check whether it's VS Code, the CLI, or the cloud agent.
Then see whether Grok 4.6 appears in the model picker.
If it's a business account, also check whether an administrator has allowed the model.
Finally, compare the same task against your existing model.
Don't look only at speed and price; record the scope of code changes and the review cost too.
A Competition of Distribution Channels, Not Models
Grok 4.6 is in the xAI console.
At the same time, it has come to Copilot, which developers already use.
This difference lowers the barrier to adoption.
That's because teams can swap and test models without learning a new tool.
Still, you can't assume it shows up at the same time on every account.
Whether it applies to you has to be confirmed in your account's model picker and admin settings.
