"Don't code alone. Slack Code is live." Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff declared this on the morning of August 20. But when we visited right after the announcement, the result was a little different.
Humans and agents in the same channel
Benioff wrote this on his X account with a 1-minute-47-second video: "Humans and agents, same channel, same work. Launching today with agents from Anthropic (@AnthropicAI), GitHub (@github), Cognition (@Cognition), and Vercel (@vercel). This is true multiplayer coding." The post passed 470,000 views within hours.
The video also tagged other accounts, including Slack's official account. The concept is humans and agents sharing the same work context in a single Slack channel, and it appears to work by taking a bug report or feature request posted in the channel and passing that context straight to a coding agent.
When we tried to open it, we got an error page
Right after the announcement, we went directly to slack.com/slack-code, which we took to be the official URL. The result was HTTP 404, meaning the server couldn't find the path at all.
We weren't alone. A reply on the same tweet said "not quite live," and another user shared a screenshot of the "There's been a glitch..." error screen they got when visiting slack.com/slack-code.
This suggests a lag between the announcement ("it's live") and actual availability. Rather than a flat-out false report, it's more accurate to see it as the kind of gap that often exists between an official announcement and actual rollout. When the slack.com/slack-code page comes online is an area we can't officially confirm and will need to keep checking.
Coding agents in Slack aren't new
This isn't the first attempt to bring coding agents into Slack. In December 2025, Slack's official blog already introduced the ability to call Claude Code, Codex, and GitHub Copilot from inside a channel. Vercel also released a Slack agent skill in April 2026, already offering a way to automate Slack agent deployment from the command line with a single line: npx skills add vercel-labs/slack-agent-skill.
Seen this way, Slack Code is less a brand-new technology than a relaunch that bundles previously scattered integrations under one product brand. Indeed, one reply asked, "Isn't this just tagging Claude with artifacts and code diffs attached?" and another repeatedly asked how it differs from the existing Claude tagging.
The real stage is Dreamforce in September
Benioff's tweet ended with "See it at @Dreamforce #DF26." Salesforce's annual conference, Dreamforce 2026, has been officially confirmed for September 15 to 17 in San Francisco.
Several signs suggest the August 20 announcement is more of a preview ahead of the main event. A full feature demo and a stable service URL will likely come at Dreamforce in September. If you're planning to adopt Slack Code for real work right now, it's safer to check that the actual product page opens reliably after Dreamforce than to judge from this announcement alone.
