OpenAI's official account @ChatGPT announced in the early hours of August 21 (KST) that "you can now share read-only conversations in ChatGPT Work and Codex desktop." We checked the details in OpenAI's official Help Center documentation.
ChatGPT Work and Codex now have read-only links
What gets shared is a read-only snapshot. If the original conversation changes later, the content of a link you've already shared isn't updated. A personal account link can be opened by anyone who has the URL, while a workspace link can be viewed only by members of the same workspace. ChatGPT Work isn't a new name for the existing Team and Enterprise plans but a separate new GPT-5.6-based agent. The desktop app is available on all plans, and web and mobile on the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans.
Some things aren't removed when you share
When you share a Codex conversation, known secret patterns such as API keys are automatically masked. But the official documentation notes that file paths, code diffs, and images aren't all masked. If a conversation contains internal code or unreleased information, it's safer for your team to set a process of looking over the screen yourself before sharing.
Claude actually came first
A reply on the announcement tweet said, "I wish Claude did this too." But according to Anthropic's official support documentation, Claude has offered conversation sharing links since before this announcement: Free, Pro, and Max plans support links anyone can view, and Team and Enterprise plans support links limited to inside the organization. People were envying a feature without knowing that the other side had a similar feature first.
